Next UserOS operating system to have 3G support
With the release of Ubuntu/Xubuntu 8.10, I’ll be starting final development of our next UserOS operating system and apart from our own selection of goodies, this OS will also have 3G support, thanks to it being a built-in feature inside this latest version of Canonical’s Linux distro.
According to Canonical, the 3G support will include auto-detection of devices so hopefully that will include Telstra 3G modems and the like.
That should make it an even better operating system for notebook use.
At this stage, 8.10 will for the basis for two UserOS operating systems, one of which will be the long awaited UserOS ULTRA. However, there will be a second more specific version that I don’t want to talk about too much now (in case it all goes pear-shaped).
I’ve been developing some additional software in the 50milliseconds I get between PC User issues that should make it fun to use. But more on that later.

If you’ve thought about trying Ubuntu or its lower-grunt-requiring sibling, Xubuntu, but haven’t had a spare PC to throw it on and you have wanted to do more than use a live CD, one simple way is to build a virtual PC.
A virtual PC is basically a PC made entirely out of software.
To an operating

Ubuntu 10.04 is finally out! You can grab a copy here.
Having played with the first Beta and the Release Candidate, I’m hopeful that 10.04 could be a bit of a breakout release for Canonical and for Linux in general.
There are many different releases of Linux (including PC User’s own UserOS series) however, the theme and

It basically picks up where our original UserOS Ultra 7.10 operating system left

Five things Ubuntu really needs

There have been a couple of interesting Diggs this morning about features “Ubuntu really needs”. The first post seemed a bit ditzy and the second for the most part was on the money – Ubuntu already has a truckload of features and most things it doesn’t have by default can be installed from the Ubuntu
