The 22-inch LCD monitor goes HD
If you’re in the market for a 22-inch widescreen LCD monitor, you may want to start checking its specifications a little more closely these days.
It looks as though manufacturers are beginning to increase the screen resolution from the standard 1680×1050-pixels to 1920×1080-pixels, possibly to claim full “1080p” support.
BenQ has started the trend with its new E2200HD monitor but what’s more interesting is the fact that the price is about the same as older 1680×1050-pixel 22-inch monitors at around $240-$250.
While 1920×1080-pixels will make Blu-ray movies look pretty damn good (the E2200HD also features an HDMI port), it’s going to make desktop work possibly more difficult because you’re fitting in so many more pixels into the same screen size.
So before you rush and buy one, just make sure you get a look at it running a Windows desktop or application in its native resolution. You’ll need to feel comfortable with otherwise you may be better off sticking with one of the standard models.
BenQ maybe the first but you can be sure it won’t be the last and when the other brands start to make a move, everyone will move quickly. Using larger fonts can overcome some of the disadvantage of more pixels but for some, the extra resolution will be a plus too.
The most important thing is be aware than there is a change brewing in the 22-inch screen market and make your move accordingly.
